International Day for Tolerance

What is tolerance? During the theme-based afternoon in Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder marking the International Day for Tolerance, visitors to the museum are invited to consider this question and take part in the activities.

International Day for Tolerance 2016
On Wednesday 16 November Museum Ons´ Lieve Heer op Solder held a themed afternoon focused on the International Day for Tolerance. Every year on this day activities are organised all over the world on issues surrounding tolerance. This year students in the Voices of Tolerance educational programme spoke with Mayor of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan, police spokesperson Ellie Lust and comedian Jandino Asporaat. The students also gave a creative presentation of their views on tolerance. Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder is an ideal location in the Netherlands for debate and dialogue on tolerance, and for this reason will continue to focus on the International Day for Tolerance in the coming years.

International Day for Tolerance 2015
The International Day for Tolerance 2015 featured a performance by spoken word performer Akwasi and his band, a discussion on tolerance by four students, and a talk on the subject by Esther van Duin, youth representative to UNESCO. This was followed by a closed session in which various parties (including parents, schools, museums and the City of Amsterdam) discussed a teaching method for tolerance education.
